I never knew what a snow day was until I moved to Wisconsin. Now, obviously I knew the literal meaning of snow day, but had never experienced one. You see, in Texas where I grew up the coldest it ever got was maybe the 30's and the only days we'd get off from school/work was because of flooding or a hurricane.
I can only remember 2 days that school got called off, once when I was in 3rd grade & it rained so much overnight the entire city was flooded....but of course Mom still got me up the next morning and we made the drive across town only to find out school was cancelled...and then we couldn't get home because the water was so high in the street!! We stayed the night at Aunt Judi & Uncle Al's and tried again in the morning.
The 2nd time was in high school, the first day of my senior year. A hurricane was supposed to blow through and just in case school was cancelled. I went shopping and thoroughly enjoyed the fact that it was like 80 & sunny out that day.
So now I live in Wisconsin and in the almost 5 years that I've been here I've had 1 snow day, which occured when UW-Baraboo/Sauk County cancelled classes because of the snow during my 2nd semester there.
Which now brings me to the question....is there a snow day for adults?
As I'm writing this my question gets answered...Yes, yes there is a snow day for us!
Well, at least 1/2 a snow day. I managed to make it work this morning just after 8 am and before noon the bosses were talking about closing down early. All of our Mercedes appointments cancelled and 1 or 2 brave Audi souls decided to brave the weather and make it in for theirs, so service is closing down at 3, which means us BDC Reps get to leave early too. And I've already gotten a call from Menards telling me not to worry about coming in.
I don't know what to do with myself for the rest of the day! I'm so excited! This must be how kids feel on snow days.
We plan on taking shovels w/ us out the parking lot when we leave at 3 so we can dig each other out. I hope everyone is able to make it home safely!!

I'm glad its you shoveling snow and not me. You wanted to go where it was cold! Did you go out and play in the snow? Enjoy some hot chocolate and snuggle in for the night.
mom
Us teachers always pray for snow days just as much as the kids do.
Yes, Jen growing up we (your mom & me) looked forward to big snows. If the buses didn't run we didn't go, once in awhile the school was open but only those that were in walking distance went. Out on the "old Bell Road" we were one of the last to get plowed...
Aunt Judi
Have you ever read the diary of a shoveler??? Although I (SHOULD) not have to shovel (haha.. we live at Lincoln Ridge! Like that's gonna happen!)... umm.. Ok, minus the parenthesis, let me start this sentence over -- Although I (don't have to) shovel, I'm on the last day, where he shoots himself! (I'm really not going to, although there are a few select people I wouldn't mind shooting!) Hope YOU enjoyed your snow day... The only good thing I got out of it was Ava giggled again! :) ps: she rolls over to her stomach to sleep now! You've GOTTA see her! :) lol
Snow Days are great for us in education until we have to stay in school in June when the kids are crazy...then we're crazy too!
Glad to hear you got to enjoy an "adult" snow day (god, that could have a couple of different meanings!). Can't wait to see you guys on Saturday!
