Sunflowers

When Dan & I first moved in together I bought some gerbera daisies and put them in a corner and basically forgot about them. Needless to say, they didn't last too long :-s

So when we decided to move to Verona and into an apartment with a balcony I was very excited that we'd have that outdoor space and quickly said I wanted to get some pots and flowers. Well Dan, remembering the daisies, said we weren't going to go spending any money unless I could prove I could keep something alive for longer than a day or two.

In April we each got a little starter pot w/ sunflower seeds from the Dollar section in Target and planted them at the same time. Dan said if I was able to keep mine alive then I'd be allowed to further expand my garden.

Well....I have to say....I think I'm doing pretty darn good!

Sadly, Dan's sunflowers didn't survive to have their picture taken. They had an unfortunate mishap w/ some MiracleGro (not my fault!)
I'm proud to say the geraniums and roses are doing quite well. However, my lilies didn't survive the massive amount of rain we got just after planting them.

Couldn't wait!

Is it bad that I couldn't wait until my first dress fitting to put my wedding dress on w/ all the accessories?
Seeing as I was home alone tonight I couldn't help myself! I pulled out every single piece of the wedding day ensemble and put it on (except for my wedding ring, that's probably pushing it a little far). I truly understand why brides don't get dressed alone.....ITS IMPOSSIBLE!

Staying up late

Lately the latest I've been staying up on a work-night has been midnight, and that's even pushing it. I've found that I really enjoy my sleep. I'm thinking I missed out on so much of it when I worked 3rd shift at a resort and went to school full-time; so I'm making up for it now. However, there are those rare occasions when you can't help staying up because theres something you want to do.
Last night, for instance, was the opening night for The Dark Knight, the new Batman movie. I've never been a huge fan of Batman. In fact the last Batman movie I saw had George Clooney & Chris O'Donnell in it. Luckily for me, Dan owns the entire Batman collection (as far as I know), so I plan on starting at the very beginning and work my up to the present.
So anywho, back to last night. Dan, Adam & I had dinner at the Tilted Kilt (a Scottish version of Hooters I'd say) and walked around Wally World until 10:30. We got to the theater in time to get a decent parking spot & actually made it through the door in less than 5 minutes. Of course as soon as we got in and went to get seats we found out the line we were in was for the IMAX showing, which was sold out when I ordered our tickets. The theater "police" questioned us about how we got in, and I told her we stood in the line and handed over our ticket. I said if there would have been signage then we would have known we were in the wrong line! Oh well, we hung around the lobby for 10 minutes & as soon as they started letting the other line of people in we went and found our seats. So of course we sat for about an hour waiting.
It was definitely worth it though! I was not expecting to enjoy the movie as much as I did! We were even home by 3am!
Needless to say, it was a loooooong night.
I have to give KUDOS to the theater too! Everything was so organized. I was expecting a mad rush to get in and find seats and people being trampled over. But they let in groups of people at a time and it made for a very laid back atmosphere.
So...yea....I highly recommend The Dark Knight. It was awesome! I highly doubt we'll be taking in any more midnight premiers any time soon, but I'm glad we got to do this one. It was worth the lack of sleep!

Hooray for Family!

The last weekend of June was spent with our families....

My parents were up from Texas....and I was especially excited to see my Mom...who has lost 122lbs!! I almost didn't recognize her when we picked her up from the airport.

We had a great day on Friday, shopping and getting pedicures. We managed to find some ivory satin for the ring bearer's pillow and lots of yarn for favors (which I really need to get working on). We had dinner w/ Mom & Dad at Fox's and went back to Aunt Sue & Uncle Ken's for a graduation party for their niece. Dan & I had a good time getting to hang out w/ my cousins...and their adorable kids! Dan had so much fun he didn't go to bed until 6am Saturday morning.

After a great breakfast w/ Mom & Jack we picked Dad up and headed to Mt. Prospect so Mom could meet Dan's parents. We had a nice quiet visit before more of Dan's family came over. All in all it was a great day!

Sunday we all went to the church where Dan & I are going to get married and then stopped at the reception hall so Mom could see it. We even got some more of our questions answered while we were there. Afterwards we took Mom & Dad back to Gramma Red's where they stayed until leaving on Monday. We got to spend more time w/ Dad's side of the family and it was definitely great getting to see everyone.

The visit sure was short, but we managed to get a lot done. I'm soooo glad my mom got to come up before the wedding; I was sad to see her go so soon :(

Tooth Tragedy

I was having such a good weekend! My parents were up from Texas and I got to spend all weekend with my mom....all of which I'll post about later (w/ pics)

However, by Saturday evening a tooth that had given me problems previously, decided it was time to give me major problems. I was up all night Saturday in pain and barely ate anything Sunday because the entire right side of my face hurt. Sunday night was even worse. So bright and early Monday morning I called the closest dentist I could find that would get me in ASAP. I was seen by the dentist around noon and the diagnosis wasn't good......

ROOT CANAL!!! Just hearing those words made me cringe....even though I knew that was a definite possibility.

So the dentist prescribed Amoxycillin and Hydrocodone along w/ some 600mg Ibuprofin for the night until I could come back on Tuesday. I felt pretty good Monday night & actually slept. I went into work for an hour before going back to the dentist. The actual procedure wasn't too bad....the worst was all the needle pricks needed to completely numb my jaw. Afterwards I went home and took all the medications and zonked out for several hours. I wouldn't have been very productive at work, seeing as I couldn't talk and the room kept spinning every time I opened my eyes.

Tuesday night wasn't too bad....I did wake up around 3am in pain, so I popped some more pills & went back to bed.

What a horrible end to such a wonderful weekend!
